DESIGN:
Supertech Performance uses its 20+ years of experience in manufacturing racing valves, testing extensively and working closely with many engine manufacturers to best improve and optimize the market for each application.
High flow rates, durability and quality are of great importance to Supertech Performanace.
MATERIALS:
Supertech Performance produces racing valves in many different materials such as stainless steel, Nimonic, Inconel, titanium, etc. There are different alloys, heat treatments and coatings for different applications. For most alloys, Supertech Perormance follows the specifications according to SAE standard J775.
STAINLESS STEEL VALVES:
Manufactured from one piece of forged stainless steel. Supertech Performance mainly uses SAE EV8 (UNS S63008) for the inlet and outlet valve.
Supertech Performance applies different heat treatments to this material to obtain different hardness and ductility depending on the application and budget (Street Performance or Heavy Duty Racing).
Supertech uses two different types of coatings:
A: Chrome coating, widely used in high performance valves.
B: Black Nitrided: This is a hardening treatment that, although not widely used as a chrome coating, has several advantages and is becoming very popular, mainly for European and Japanese applications.
The microhardness is higher than that of the stainless steel base material, while maintaining good ductility under the hard nitrided layer (microhardness is 800HV minimum).
The surface finish is smoother than chrome-plated stems and has less friction between stem and guide.
The valve seat surface is harder with the nitrided layer and lasts longer with unleaded fuels, alcohols, nitro or other "explosive" mixtures. Fits any type of seat (ball iron seats, steel powder metal seats, hard aluminum-copper seats or beryllium-copper seats).
Higher speed motors make full use of all previous functions. The higher the engine speed, the greater the power loss due to internal engine friction! The black nitride layer reduces this power loss due to the lower valve guide friction.
The nitrided layer adheres to the base material at a microscopic level and does not "flake" or break when the valves bend due to impact with the pistons.
The black nitride applies to the entire valve, while the chrome layer is only applied to the stem.
