16V Eurospec Billet crankshaft pulley Timing belt pulley
The Eurospec billet crankshaft sprocket is made of high-strength chromium molybdenum steel 42cromo4.
One of the biggest weak points in VW and Audi engines is the timing belt pulley on the crankshaft.
The main problem is not the screw connection but the actual material of the timing belt pulley.
The material is simply too soft and deforms too much when tightened - e.g. with a ARP crankshaft bolt.
The nose of the original timing belt pulley shears off, especially in higher performance engines (see pictures)
As a result, the timing belt is no longer driven by the crankshaft and the pistons hit the valves in an uncontrolled manner.
In the worst case, the valve tears off and ends up in the turbocharger.
Technical data:
- milled from the solid (billet)
- designed for high tensile and compressive forces
- made of high-strength chromium molybdenum steel 42cromo4 steel
- higher tightening torque of the KW screw
- speed fixed to well over 9000/rpm
Installation tips:
Heat the timing belt pulley slightly on a hotplate and center it first with the original bolt,
Then tighten with the ARP crankshaft bolt (higher tightening torque).

VW Golf 2 3, Passat
Seat Ibiza
